It’s said that everyone at Good Morning America is excited over Michael Strahan joining the team. ABC News correspondent Mara Schiavocampo told Page Six: “He is so loved by everyone on the staff and by all the on-air team. He’s just a really good person. He brings a good energy to the studio and we’re really excited to have him . . . Everybody wanted more Michael.”
But while the GMA crew is celebrating, those at Live! With Kelly and Michael are feeling the nerves as their co-hosts are still going through some major drama.
Kelly Ripa has reportedly refused to take calls from ABC execs and from Strahan, staying out of touch while she vacations with her husband Mark Consuelos following Michael’s announcement to leave Live! And insiders fear that, should she continue her ‘boycott,’ management might be forced to give her a legal love letter:
“They still don’t know if she’s coming back on Tuesday. Kelly won’t take anyone’s calls. She could get a letter this weekend saying she’s required to turn up to work under her contract, and if she doesn’t show up, she’ll face being sued for damages, such as lost ad revenue.”
ABC reps, however, have denied the rumor but refused to comment on further actions on Ripa’s case.
Sources close to Kelly, meanwhile, insist nothing legally damaging will happen and that she’ll be back in her seat come Tuesday as promised. In fact, they showed an email the host sent to her staff last Friday night. In it, she wrote, “I wanted to thank you all for giving me the time to process this new information. Your kindness, support, and love has overwhelmed me . . We are a family and I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday morning. Love, Kelly.”
Of course, Strahan will be waiting for his co-host with open arms. According to a People magazine source, he “is looking forward to having Kelly Ripa back on Live!” and that “he got why she was mad but it was out of his control. He spent the last few days reaching out because he wanted her to come back.”
