The Michael Lohan family drama trudges on…unfortunately.
The father of seven – which includes actress Lindsay Lohan – has been granted a positive break by being cleared of criminal child abuse charges, but his other dramas and legal battles still continue.
Michael and his wife Kate Major are in an ugly custody battle over their two kids, 2-year-old Landon and 10-month-old Logan, who have been recently transferred in the care of Michael’s mother in light of an October incident.
The Florida Department of Children and Families decided to remove the boys from the feuding spouses after the two were videotaped having an explosive argument in front of their children last October 11.
It was also that incident that Kate says her husband tried to “choke” her and “slapped their son in the face.” Michael has since denied these accusations. “They’re saying I hit her and they want to take the kids away from me, but I have proof that I never touched her. I have a tape of her saying [I] never touched [her] and I showed it to [the cops].”
As a result, the judge at last Tuesday’s court hearing dropped Kate’s charges but still enforced custody with the boys’ grandmother. Both parents can only see their children in the presence of a DCF monitor, and both have also been ordered to take anger management courses, in light of the pair’s long history of conflict in their relationship.
The Tuesday ruling also doesn’t spell any hopes for a family reunion. After settling custody and financial concerns, Michael plans to come back in court for a divorce. “I think I have grounds for an annulment anyway,” he says.
