Now that the year is coming to an end, it’s time that we find out what were the 10 best albums of 2014. We hijacked this list from Metacritic.com.
Well there’s no surprise here, but Taylor Swift made it to the list. Good for her! So how did Metracritic figure out this list? Basically they gathered information from all over the Internet to see which albums were being mentioned the most. But don’t worry they didn’t gather this info if Little Suzie who runs a Taylor Swift Blog and posted about her 1500 times. Nope, they had some sort of algorithm that they used to pick out online mentions from magazines, news sites, media outlets and even music stores.
Basically these guys are a bunch of Scientists at Metacritic. Oh and get this, as we near the end of the year, the folks at Metacritic will continually update their list based on new information that comes in. What I like about this list is that it doesn’t just limit it to POP, but you see things in there from Rock, Electronic and even Hardcore Rap. It’s a pretty eclectic list if you ask me.
Now I know there are more official ways of figuring out which album is more popular, I believe its done by the album sales or most downloads. But I like the way this list was made up since it uses the internet to crawl through all the nooks and crannies and find out what people are talking about the most. Besides with this technology, people get to be exposed to more genres of music or new artists that they never would have been to before if all they did was listen to the radio.
